What is lupus nephritis?

Lupus nephritis is the inflammation of the kidney caused by the condition of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Lupus nephritis occurs when lupus antibodies impair the filtering function (glomeruli) of the kidneys. Eventually this condition may lead to kidney failure.
