Advice & Tips: Elavil is becoming unfamiliar with psychiatrists these days; they seem to feel that the old tricylics don't work as well as all the SSRI's that are out there now. Personally, over the vast amount of years with my psychiatrist, we tried everything from A-Z......always came back to Elavil. The SSRI's had terrible side effects & did not work as well. I think it's been quite effective! The weight gain used to be bad until I was dxed w/ Type 2 Diabetes (not on medication/just diet & exercise & glucose monitoring daily) Now I've been losing weight.

Advice & Tips: This definitely helps with the problems I have sleeping, getting to sleep, staying asleep, getting restorative sleep, depression, and pain. I can tell more when I miss 2 or more nights, usually caused by a refill problem. I try to never run out and have to go without a dose. Missing doses causes all my problems like with sleeping, pain, and depression to become worse and my other medications don't seem as effective. I really take a nose dive if more than 2 doses are missed. Missing only 1 is tolerable, missing anymore becomes a big problem. I get anxious, teary, sleepless, and I feel hopeless. It is a horrible feeling.
