Lumpectomy is a surgical procedure that removes the breast lump, cyst, or suspicious tissue seen on the mammogram and some surrounding tissue as well. Lumpectomy can also be referred to as "breast sparing", "breast conserving" or "segmental mastectomy".

Advice & Tips: It is a simple procedure with a recouperation period of about one week. Scarring heals well. I had two surgeries. For the second one the surgeon used same incision area so I only have one scar on my left breast. Breastcancer.org is an excellent resource for explaining this condition and procedure.
