What is congential diaphragmatic hernia?

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is characterized by a hole in the diaphragm (a muscle separating the chest from the abdomen) that does not close and causes organs to move through the hole. Trouble breathing is the typical symptom. Surgery to close the hole is often done a few days after birth.
