Phenotypic and genotypic resistance assays measure the susceptibility of HIV to drug therapy for use in aiding long-term antiretroviral treatment planning. Phenotypic tests assess the actual response of a patient's viral isolate, and genotypic tests measure resistance to antiretroviral drugs.
