Advice & Tips: I served in the US Coast Guard from 1974-1978. When diagnosed with MS in 2007, it was obviously not service connected. Yet because of my service and the substantial drop in my income brought on by the onset of MS, the VA accepted me for coverage as a category 5 enrollment priority group. I discovered the VA has a comprehensive, robust program for spinal-cord injury/disease veterans.
