Montelukast (Singulair) Side Effects

About Montelukast (Singulair) Side Effects

Our mission is to accumulate real-world data in a public forum in order to provide researchers, medical practitioners, and government agencies insight into the neuropsychiatric side effects, as well as post-discontinuation symptoms associated with the commonly prescribed asthma/allergy medication, montelukast sodium (Singulair).

We hope this data will not only prompt much needed modifications to the drug labeling but also ignite interest in scientific studies to investigate potential genomic biomarkers as well as uncover the biologic mechanism for the neuropsychiatric adverse events both during treatment and after discontinuation.

We strongly believe identifying the cause of the neuropsychiatric symptoms is essential in providing the medical community with the following capabilities:
1) to identify symptoms, both during and after treatment, as effects of the medication (rather than diagnosing other syndromes)
2) to develop a safe discontinuation protocol to potentially reduce symptoms experienced after discontinuation of montelukast (i.e. tapering)
3) to provide guidance to assist patients heal during the recovery period.

Note, this page should not substitute the submission of a report to your country’s adverse event reporting system.
