    25yrRA was feeling good

I feel like I have been run over by a bulldozer again, but got good news from my Cardiologist. I don't have to go back for a Pacemaker check until Feb of 2017! He thinks I am fine on that front and I got to meet his new PA. I was also able to take some conclusive action on another project I am working on for my newer family unit, adult daughter, and son in law. Hopefully, we can make something good and final out of a previously bad situation and put some of my old personal ghosts to rest at the same time!

    25yrRA updated her bio

Been fighting RA for over 30 years and have been on steroids all 30. Worked for many years as a medical biller and miss it very much as my Dr will not let me go back to work. My main hobby is genealogy. I started in genealogy because I am an adoptee who has found her birth family and just kept looking! I have done some consulting work in genealogy as well but prefer to help folks for free as many have done for me.

I have a small consulting business (me!) and have taught medical billing to companies wishing to start up DME & HME businesses. I have 5 adult children: a son (who is engaged to a wonderful young lady!) and step-daughter born in 1984,  step-son (both parents deceased) and daughter both born in 1985, her husband born in 1981, step-daughter born in 1987.

I have tried gold shots, Humira, methotrexate, Enbrel, Plaquenil and Remicade, Arava, Simponi-Aria etc. Remicade was the most effective treatment for me. I am currently going onto Orencia and remain hopeful that something will eventually work well! I have been blessed with excellent insurance thru my husband's employer (St of CA) and have had 3 wonderful rheumatologists along the way. I have a GP that is willing to listen and try new things as I have developed Degenerative Joint and Disc Disease esp in my top 4 or 5 vertebrae. They have deteriorated to the point that surgery to fuse them is no longer possible. Obviously, this causes a lot of pain, most of which I have simply learned to live with although I do have fentanyl patches and oxycodone for breakthrough pain.

In late 2012 I had a heart attack that required the implantation of a pacemaker which helps enormously. Following the heart attack, I had a stroke which has caused some memory loss although I have recovered almost completely from it. I do walk with a cane, mostly for balance. I have broken my nose 3 different times in my life and had 2 repair surgeries for it. It seems my kidneys have gone south on me, probably due to all of the medications. I have acquired a kidney specialist due to my continuing stage 3 kidney disease. He was able to bring it from Stage 3 to NORMAL in one month and neither of us are quite sure how! I also have Fibromyalgia.

I have developed some dental problems, partly due to my birthmother's having taken Tetracycline when she was 4 months pregnant with me. I am also allergic to Tetracycline and extremely sensitive to penicillin. I have a complete plate on the bottom, but hate to wear it (excellent dentist!) and have been undergoing tooth removal followed by implantation on my upper jaw. The last round of dental surgery was the worst as my tooth roots had been very far up in the jaw and sinus cavities and became infected. This has since been cleared up and my denture and I are getting along much better.

Ask me anything and I will try to answer! I am very open to all questions and discussions, but you may find me VERY protective of my kids. My daughter is VERY protective of me and is also in the medical industry, she keeps up with my medical issues for me. She is a TRUE blessing as are all of my (adult) kids!

    • First symptom: 2015
    • Diagnosis: ?

My new podiatrist has me on a 4-week course of Clarus topical 2X a day for 4 weeks to see if this clears up the condition. If not, she will take a biopsy from a spot on the top of my foot to see what else it might be.

    25yrRA was feeling neutral

I knew I was going to end up paying for several good days in a row! I think I need a weekend to recover from my busy weekend! Everything hurts today, despite my fentanyl patch and an oxycodone . I don't really want to take another one so I guess I will just muddle through as best I can.
I have to go to the cardiologist tomorrow morning, so I will have to be alive and functioning by about 10am. I just don't do mornings, but I take the cardio appts when I can get them as he is a very busy man!

    25yrRA was feeling good for

I had a bad night last night after cleaning out and bagging up a lot of my clothes at my previous house while my husband was on a camping trip. I got rid of 3 bags of clothes to the Thrift Store! I stayed up too late last night, and worse, I bit and picked at my fingernails until they were almost painful. This is one of my anxiety moves, and I am not happy about it. I thought I was going back to the house today, but I ended up doing the Dollar Tree, Walmart, Winco run instead. With the exception of my left ankle and foot and sore back, I actually did pretty well and ended up accidentally walking (driving) into a local episode of "Cops." That turned out to be a man with a gun call and everyone involved is fine and I was able to get gas and proceed with my afternoon! I seem to feel better when I have been able to accomplish something each day, so need to focus more on that during my sometimes boring weekdays.

    25yrRA was feeling good

FINALLY! A good day! Two doctor's appts and some surprising news from my Podiatrist! My #3 left toe has had a stress fracture for at least the last couple of years, which is why I drag my left foot when tired. I also got a cream for my "spots" on my right foot, so we'll see if that helps. Today was also my last day of Physical Therapy and my therapist reported that I have 50% more movement and usage of my right shoulder (near where I broke my clavicle) than I did when I started, so that is also encouraging news. This will sound strange, but has been a big struggle for me. I actually wore the bottom plate of my dentures for more than 6 hours today! I do not get along well with them and had to have them re-aligned after my fall (which cost a fortune, even with dental insurance!). I have a full plate on the bottom and really hate them because they make me lisp... Oh well, progress!

I think that is the key, wearing them more often and in increasingly challenging situations.

25yrRA updated the condition Generalized Anxiety Disorder

    • First symptom: January 10, 2002
    • Diagnosis: January 10, 2004

I have lived with depression and anxiety issues all of my life. The most effective treatment I have ever found is simply to do what you can about a situation or issue when you can do something about it, otherwise, resolve not to worry about it until you actually can take some effective action.
