  • Effectiveness

  • Burden
Not at all hard to take
Advice & Tips: Taking Cypromin is "off label". Meaning you are taking it for the side effect which is sleepiness. This wasn't prescribed by a doctor but rather suggested as an over-the-counter solution to insomnia by a nurse that I know. While Cyprimin is safe, it is commonly prescribed to children and pregnant women. If you are trying Cypromin as an over-the-counter solution and taking any other medication, make sure to consult your doctor about any drug interactions. Also, because it makes you tired, don't use any heavy equipment or drive until you are comfortable with your dosage and alertness on the drug. I have found that this anti-histamine is all I need to prevent manic episodes. My Bipolar 2 is triggered by sleeplessness, and preventing that insomnia is all I need to manage my Bipolar. Good sleep = no symptoms. It has actually led me to the idea that my biploar may be triggered by an allergic reaction to something seasonal like polen.

  • Effectiveness
    Major (for bipolar II disorder)
  • Side effects
    Mild (excessive daytime sleepiness (somnolence))
  • Adherence
    Never taken as prescribed
  • Burden
Not at all hard to take
Advice & Tips: Take this before bed when you have insomnia, racing thoughts, or any inability to sleep. It usually acts within 2 hours. Don't take too much, as the sleepiness and grogginess can last 12 to 18 hours. When your sleep returns to normal, stop taking Cypromin. If this antihistamine doesn't make you sleepy, try other brands.
