What is benign retroperitoneal schwannoma?
A benign (non-cancerous) retroperitoneal (behind lower abdominal cavity) schwannoma is also known as neurilemmoma. It is a non-cancerous nerve sheath (nerve covering) tumor composed of Schwann cells. The tumor can compress nearby nerves and causes pain, weakness, and decreased sensation.
