What is mycobacterium chelonae?

Mycobacterium chelonae is a nontuberculous atypical bacteria. This type of organism does not cause tuberculosis (TB). Mycobacterium chelonae bacteria is commonly found in the environment, and can cause an opportunistic infection within the skin or soft tissue of humans.
