What is meconium aspiration?
Meconium aspiration occurs during birth in which a newborn inhales (aspirates) a mixture of meconium and amniotic fluid into the lungs. The inhaled meconium can compromise the baby's airway. Meconium is the material found in the intestine in a newborn.
