What is Erdheim-Chester Disease?

Erdheim-Chester disease is a rare condition in which there is excessive production and accumulation of histiocytes, which normally fight infection. The histiocytes accumulate in the loose connective tissue and bone, making these tissues abnormally thick, dense, and fibrous.
