What is epiglottitis?
Epiglottitis is a life-threatening inflammation of the epiglottis, which is the cartilage flap that covers the windpipe when swallowing. The swelling is typically caused by a bacterial infection, but may also be from injury. Treatment includes steroids, antibiotics, and breathing aids.
