Eastern equine encephalitis is a rare illness that is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito. Severe cases involving inflammation of the brain (encephalitis) begin with sudden onset headache, fever, chills and vomiting that can progress to disorientation, seizures and coma.
