What is ashy dermatosis?

Ashy dermatosis is also known as erythema dyschromicum perstans; it is a benign skin discoloration of blue/grey patches usually located in the face, neck, arms, and trunk. It is a controversial diagnosis as it is sometimes considered a variant of lichen planus.
