Advice & Tips: It may not work for anyone, but it sure works for me. Even though I've been on Gliclazide 80 mg for a while, a plot of my Blood Glucose graphically demonstrates when I started taking Metformin as the lines suddenly converge into a non-diabetic comfort zone. The single most important reason for getting my doctor to prescribe Metformin, even if it's only 500 mg BD to start, is that it features in a couple of studies showing that it may slow or halt the growth of G4 GBM tumors (c.f. M. Carmignani, M. Aldea, O. Soritau et al., “Glioblastoma stem cells: a new target for metformin" - google it). I've not felt any of the side effects reported, and would happily trade the Glicazide 80 mg for a higher Metformin dose.
