Devic's Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO) is a rare autoimmune inflammatory disorder which affects the optic nerve and spinal cord. It is often confused with the similar condition Multiple Sclerosis (MS); the key difference is that MS brain lesions affect different parts of the nerve cell, MS spinal lesions are smaller, and relapses occur in a different pattern to Devic's.
