Oct 13, 2010 (Started Jan 04, 2010)

  • Effectiveness
    Can't tell (for multiple sclerosis)
  • Effectiveness

  • Side effects

  • Adherence
    Always
  • Burden
Not at all hard to take

Advice & Tips: The high energy lasted just a few days so didn't seem worth it. Laste 3-day treatment ended in a CRASH 36 hours after last infusion and I was out of town and was lucky to get a step-down oral prednisone prescription. Suggest you have a filled prescripton just in case you need one post infusion. It would have been cheaper (no $100 co-pay) had I had home infusion.
Cost: $100-199 monthly

Advice & Tips: I liked the energy boost but that lasted only a few days so it seemed good in advance of a special event that required more energy. However, I developed a fungus infection which could be due to susceptibility from suppressed immune system and steroids can increase that so decided the benefit of a few days of good energy was not worth risks of infection.
Cost: $50-99 monthly

Advice & Tips: When I was first diagnosed with MS in July 2001, I was in the hospital and was given heavy doses of solumedrol since I was in such bad shape. I took solumedrol drips monthly from August 2001-July 2007. My new neurologist (2007) suggested long term use is doing more harm than good, so he took me off it. When I took the monthly solumedrol, it would be a one-hour administration in a hospital and from 2005-2007, a nurse would come to my house to give it to me. This medicine would keep me awake for 24 hours. Two days later, I would feel an awful 'crash' for a day, but then I would stabilize. I would start feeling when it was time for me to get the next monthly dose, feeling a similar 'crash'. I received a nasty metallic taste in my mouth from the second half-hour of the treatment until about six hours later. I always needed to have a peppermint handy during my infusion.
Cost: < $25 monthly
Side effects: metallic taste in mouth

Mar 11, 2010 (Started Jan 02, 2009)

  • Effectiveness
    Major (for Other)
  • Side effects
Severe (for Overall) (no sleep and major PMS...yes PMS is real and men can get it from hormonal imbalance cause by the steroids)
  • Adherence

Advice & Tips: Have a sleep aid available to try and get some rest. The steroids jack me up I cant slep. Do not over do it. You might start to feel like the king of the world and you can easily do too much. Do a little then rest and recover. You will thank me after they ear off and you start to feel the soreness of the overdoing it.
Cost: < $25 monthly
