  • Side effects
Severe (for Overall) (withdrawal effects, anxious mood, agitation, increased appetite, insomnia)
  • Adherence
    Always
  • Burden

Advice & Tips: Drink plenty of water before your infusion so your veins will be easier to access. Take someone with you or take reading material to make the time go faster at the hospital. Eat mints for the bad metallic taste you will get in your mouth. And then get plenty of rest at home. Don't plan any activities. I was on a 5-day course and by the 3rd ir 4th day you are completely wiped out. Then be sure that you have ordered a taper pack of Prednisone from your doctor for after your infusions are over to get you through withdrawals. That next week will be bad also....kind of like a drug addict coming down off drugs. Take care of yourself...have someone bring meals to you if you can. ASK FOR HELP!!

Advice & Tips: Besides the times of my exacerbations I have been getting a "theraputc" dose before I go on extended vacations. In 2010 I traveled to London and Ireland and this June I went to Rome, Venice and back to Ireland where I end up doing a lot of walking. The positive side effect of the emergy boost and reduction in inflamation helps with long days.
Side effects: increased energy

Advice & Tips: I used to have a home health nurse come, but now I go to the infusion lab at the local hospital. Helps with a nice couple days of energy....I like that :) It's no trouble since both of my kids are in elementary school and the hospital has a very flexible scheduling policy. I can schedule a month ahead on a schoolday morning.
Cost: $25-49 monthly

Advice & Tips: This was an intravenous treatment, administered at the hospital. I just finished my second round of treatment, and unfortunately it hasn't helped my optic neuritis at all. My side effects include nasty filmy stuff on the inside of your mouth making it IMPOSSIBLE to enjoy eating anything, sensitivity to light/sound, incredible fatigue (as opposed to the ridiculous amount of energy that you normally get with steroids), and stinky pee. Sorry if it's crass - but I'm sharing everything. No unexpected benefits so far.
