What is Hydrogen breath test?

Category: Procedures

This test begins with the administration of a non-absorbable sugar solution. As this solution passes through the gut, the bacteria in the intestines will ferment the sugars and release hydrogen gas. Higher than normal levels of hydrogen may indicate bacterial overgrowth.
