  • Effectiveness
    Major (for bipolar I disorder)
  • Side effects
    Moderate (restlessness (akathisia))
  • Adherence
    Always
  • Burden
    Somewhat hard to take
Dosage: 120 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: I found out at my last appointment that I was supposed to be taking this medication with food, at least 350 calories. I figured I would just take it with dinner and be done with it. However, I discovered that this medication makes me feel nauseous immediately after taking it and extremely tired within an hour. I don't want to go to bed at 7:30, but nor do I want to eat such a big snack right before bed. I'm hoping this can be resolved by reducing my dose.
Cost: < $25 monthly

  • Effectiveness
    Major (for bipolar I disorder)
  • Side effects
    Mild (restlessness (akathisia))
  • Adherence
    Always
  • Burden
Not at all hard to take
Dosage: 40 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: At too high of a dose and combined with the other medication I take, this medication makes me very tired, like could sleep 18 hours a day tired. When the dose was cut back from 80 to 40 mg that helped a lot. Hopefully this new dose of 60 mg will help with the depressive symptoms but not lead to more of the same exhaustion.

Advice & Tips: Since 1977, my sleep has been poor, to a point of extreme dysfunction. But now with taking Latuda my sleep has improved. I use a BiPAP machine for treating my Sleep Apnea and the machine records how long I use it per day, and  I only sleep while using the BiPAP machine.  Before taking Latuda, I used the BiPAP machine less than 6 hours per day, after taking Latuda I used it more than 7 hours per day. Sleeping better has made a significant improvement in my other symptoms, like my restlessness (akathisia) has eased and my confusion has lessened.

Sleeping better has made a significant improvement in my other symptoms, like my restlessness (akathisia) has eased, my confusion has lessened, and my deep dark depression with suicidal urges have been getting better as well. For about the past 2 months or so I have been sleeping during the days and not at nights. I was taking the Latuda at the evening meal, then about 2 weeks ago I started taking my Latuda at my morning meals, but I am still having my nights and days reversed. So I don't think the Latuda is causing my nights and days to reverse. On this dosage of Latuda my diabetic number, A1c, has increased from 7.1 to 8.4.

Sleeping better has made a significant improvement in my other sysmptoms, like my restlessness (akathisia) has eased, my mood swings are better, and my confusion has lessened. But the past month or so I have been sleeping during most of the day and not at night. So I am getting my 8 hours of good sleep during the day and not at night.
