Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) delivers air into your airway through a specially designed nasal mask or pillows. The flow of air creates enough pressure when you inhale to keep your airway open. CPAP is considered the most effective nonsurgical treatment for snoring and sleep apnea.

Advice & Tips: Looking for a replacement to current device (Phillips Respironics System 60) because: 1) I love in area with big humidity shifts between time I go to bed and get up and having to set humidifier for periods when natural humidity levels are low result in water pooling in house and mask when humidity levels rise. 2) Power dropouts especially with heavy rain or snow. This causes a affect which severely disrupts my sleep period and makes using it worthless. 3) Water reservoir for the humidifier can not hold enough water to lay more than 8 hours when set for high humidity in the fall /winter /spring. This results in breathing a heated plastic smell for a few hours until I wake. Found a portable unit that resolves ALL of the problems but it is newly FDA approved and not yet available with my insurance.

Advice & Tips: I am now using a wisp nasal mask. Prior to the mask change, I started having severe dry mouth/throat and I still have it with the new mask. I let a Ricola dissolve in my mouth during the night but sometimes I wake mid-sleep to add another because the dryness keeps waking me. I dropped effectiveness to moderate because I have been increasingly waking feeling worse that I did before going to sleep.

Advice & Tips: Only using for a few days. Full, light weight, face mask. Still have problem with expiration pressure and heat in mask upon expiration. Inspiration pressure is OK. Have to get used to it. Need a Bluetooth module to use SleepMapper iPad/iPhone app which I hope to get next week.

Advice & Tips: After using for a period of time I have learned to adjust for humidity and I have now gotten to a consistent 7 plus hours a night. I feel this helps my airways stay clear and may even help with any swallowing problems I may have had in the past. I do have more endurance since the inception of this machine and my AHI is a good average of 6 with many readings of 5 or lower, especially if I am able to get a nap in during the day.
