Valacyclovir is used to treat herpes zoster (shingles) and genital herpes. It does not cure herpes infections but decreases pain and itching, helps sores to heal, and prevents new ones from forming.

Advice & Tips: Take a pill whenever you first feel the smallest symptom, even if you're not sure it's herpes. Continue for about 7 days or so - so that it doesn't linger and come back right away.

Dosage: 500 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: due to frequency of my shingles outbreaks, i always kept it onhand and then one day my Dr. suggest we try a daily dose which has worked well at keeping the outbreaks under control. when i did not take daily, I could tell when the shingles were coming on and would start taking as soon as possible. The sooner I started taking the better off I was. The quicker it was gone.

Dosage: 3000 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: One week at 1g three times a day has not had the dramatic effect expected. I still have a patch of weeping/crusting eczema and my face still has a dry rash that has not improved in the last three days of treatment. Reconsidering the diagnosis now.
