Blood transfusion is the process of transferring blood or blood-based products from one person into the circulatory system of another. Early transfusions used whole blood, but modern medical practice commonly uses only components of the blood.

This was the not the first attempt to find the cause (or cure) of my iron-deficient anemia. The first attempt was to do the hysterectomy, the second attempt was diagnosis of a large, bleeding, gastric ulcer, and this transfusion was done (I believe) after the mastectomy. The doctor said, "You were anemic before the surgery, you sure as hell need a transfusion now!"
