Advice & Tips: This is a wonderful and little known therapy that can help with neurogenic bowel and chronic constipation. I was getting close to a colostomy and this is a step that is before that option. I do it daily and as a spinal cord injured patient and Veteran, the VA brought me into the hospital and I went through 5 days of training. Worth every second and it has been a life changer for me. I use the system every day along with Colace and Sennakot. I have the dexterity to do this myself but it is probably most often done with the help of an aide who would go through the training. When I started, I was inflating the balloon (that holds the catheter in the rectum) too much and was injuring myself. Once I learned what my body needed best, I was able to inflate MUCH less and avoid further injury.
