  • Effectiveness
    Major (for multiple sclerosis)
  • Side effects
Mild (for Overall) (I detailed the single reaction in the previous section)
  • Adherence
    Always
  • Burden
Not at all hard to take
Dosage: 20 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: Taking a daily injection is no different from taking a daily pill. There is a little more preparation, about 60 seconds, and there is often mild bleeding BUT NO PAIN and use of an ice pack deals with this easily. I travel a lot so have to carry my needles with me and sometimes am asked at security points or customs halls to show the letters I carry from my GP and neurologist. I have had 1 severe adverse reaction to Copaxone which apparently occurs very rarely in very few users. I did report this to PLM and it is on file. I would repeat that it is a rare occurance in very few users. What happened was that almost immediately after I injected I got really hot and flushed and fell to the floor with significant muscle pain, it lasted for 20 - 30 minutes and then passed by as though nothing had happened.
Cost: $25-49 monthly
Side effects: I detailed the single reaction in the previous section

Advice & Tips: I take this shot daily and have varied the times until I found a time that I could remember to always take, which is right after dinner with my evening dinner pills. The shots sting like a bee and hurt like the dickens. It is still to early to tell whether or not they are being effective but I am willing to give anything a chance. They leave hard knots under the injection site and after a week or so the skin at the injection site dries out really bad.
Cost: < $25 monthly

Advice & Tips: I have not had any new lesions since starting on this medication. My doctor says that my relaspses have been psydo. I try to stay as stress free as possible. Stress brings on my "psydo" relaspes. They feel real to me, but there are no changes afterwards.

Advice & Tips: Site reactions are awful for me, but I am sticking it out!!! The cost is wonderful ($0 for me) so I can't complain, and see no reason to deny a treatment that I don't even have to pay for. SS covers my monthly copay. Wish that everyone in need of the med could have that luxury.
