Advice & Tips: Worked for me as a kid when having petit mal seizures. As an adult with grand mal seizure, I was in a lot of pain on this medication and had to stop taking it.

Advice & Tips: I was originally started on Depakote, back in 1989. It was very had to remember to take it on time, since it had to be taken at 4 different times per day. This resulted in larger swings in Depakote levels in my bloodstream, sometimes possibly leading to break-through seizures. Since I have been on Depakote ER this is no longer a problem, and it is much more convenient to take only one time per day.

Advice & Tips: Depakote controlled my seizures most of the time, but has not completely done so. The seizures always come back about a year or two after adjusting my dosage. The side effects for me are: weight gain, breast enlargement, tremors, depression, indecisiveness or what is termed "cloudy thinking" on the label... Positive effects were the relaxing effect of this medicine. It calmed me down emotionally. Depakote has made daily life easier but I am ready for a new medicine, as I am developing an immunity to it.
