Advice & Tips: When you start LDN you need to get off ALL opioids because they conflict. At first I was in pain all the time (4-7 out of 10)+ had Constant daytime drowsiness + vivid dreams every night. With in the week I started smiling instead of Grimacing all the time. Hygiene and house cleaning has become less troubling. After 2 months, the "Whole body" pain has decreased in intensity (now 2-4), allowing me to be able to identify and address specific symptoms w/ my doc. PLUS I've needed only 1or 2 NSAIDs a day! About two months in the drowsiness started to subside + the vivid dreams have been less noticeable!
Cost: < $25 monthly

Mar 26, 2012 (Started Feb 10, 2010)

  • Effectiveness
    Moderate (for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis)
  • Side effects
    None (for Overall)
  • Adherence
    Always
  • Burden
Not at all hard to take
Dosage: 4.5 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: I am seeing many ALS patients loosing their voice. I am convinced that LDN is what prevented me from loosing mine. I started on the drug a couple years ago, noticed an immediate impact, and have not gotten off. My voice is still around which was contrary to my original progression. I still struggle, but most people can understand what I am saying with very little repeating. Please consider using just to see if it works for you.

Advice & Tips: This seemed to be the reason why I was able to keep my voice. No proof of this fact, but it certainly is the appearance from my perspective.

  • Side effects
    None (for Overall)
  • Adherence
    Always
  • Burden

Dosage: 4.5 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: This treatment needs to be given a fair chance for at least a year, based on other IC patients that have received positive results. After 6 months, my symptoms have improved 35 to 40%. I will be looking into increasing my dosage. My overall energy is much better. I sleep like a baby most nights, now.

Advice & Tips: I had to stop in order to begin normast. Because LDN blocks opioid receptors throughout the body for three or four hours, people using medicine that is an opioid agonist, i.e. narcotic medication — such as Ultram (tramadol), morphine, Percocet, Duragesic patch or codeine-containing medication — should not take LDN until such medicine is completely out of one's system.

Advice & Tips: My Kaiser Internal Medicine MD would not prescribe because it's off-label, even though I sent her links to two studies that showed this was helpful and with no side effects. A functional medicine doctor my husband had been seeing prescribed it for me instead. YI - It has to be compounded at a Pharmacy and I have to pay out of pocket since Kaiser won't prescribe. It helps take some of the "nervy" burning pain away and I have not had any side effects whatsoever like I have with every other medication.
