Mar 21, 2011 (Started Oct 23, 2009)

  • Effectiveness
    Moderate (for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Side effects
Mild (for Overall) (upset stomach, decreased appetite)
  • Adherence
    Usually
  • Burden
Not at all hard to take
Dosage: As needed
Advice & Tips: I take Ritalin "as needed". I suggest that if you are also of this regime, make sure to have a ritual (a Ritalinual?). For example, if you take a dose and then go on the computer just to wait for it to "kick in", you might get sucked into the e-world. If you take it before a planned stretch of work have everything ready before hand: all materials in front of you, your workspace tidied, and all unrelated tasks finished. Start with the small stuff during that 0-20m kick in phase, maybe just review some notes or re-read what you have already started on. Good luck!
Cost: < $25 monthly
Side effects: upset stomach, decreased appetite

Oct 27, 2009 (Started Oct 23, 2009)

  • Effectiveness
    Major (for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Side effects
    Mild (for Overall) (upset stomach)
  • Adherence
    Usually
  • Burden
Not at all hard to take
Dosage: As needed
Advice & Tips: Ritilin helps me when I need to keep my thoughts and work ordered, especially when I am in danger of being distracted (when I am under pressure, for example). I take it "as need", per doctor's instructions. I do have fears of developing a functional dependency on it however, and will try to moderate usage.

Jul 25, 2012 (Started Jul 15, 2011)

  • Effectiveness
    Moderate (for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Side effects
Moderate (for Overall) (shaky hands, unrefreshing or poor sleep)
  • Adherence
    Always
  • Burden
Not at all hard to take
Dosage: 54 mg/24 hr Daily
Advice & Tips: I try to drink more water than normal in order to prevent headaches. The poor sleep has always been a problem on any stimulant ADD medication. Concerta has the most mild symptoms. I also keep track and schedule my meals to manage the appetite problems. The one thing I like about Concerta is that is helps me focus with out making me feel jittery.

Jan 15, 2011 (Started Aug 15, 2008)

    Major (for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Side effects
Moderate (for Overall) (irritability, drug dependence, social withdrawal, decreased appetite)
  • Adherence
    Always
  • Burden
    A little hard to take
Advice & Tips: The medication works, but you will lose your appetite, some sociability, and will be highly dependent on it. I'd also recommend getting a short-acting supplement because it starts wearing off in the evening.
