Advice & Tips: This drug was a turning point in treatment for me. It helped me finally stabilize my depression and helped take some of the edge off my pain. It was pivotal in getting "me" back after my MS diagnosis. However, as time went on I just started to feel muted. I couldn't feel more then moderately interested in life. I realized this drug was working to well. I very slowly weaned myself off, but the side effects of stopping were INTENSE! Mood swings at the drop of a hat, crying over the silliest things, manic like behavior. That lasted almost a year! It's truly like you have to relearn how to have and handle emotion all over again because they were muted for so long. 8 years after stopping this medication, I feel like I'm back to "normal", for the most part. I still cry like a baby over the stupidest things, and heaven forbid if I should actually have a reason to cry! I never was like this before, but I can live with it now that the depression is tied up and thrown in a black hole somewhere in my mind.

Advice & Tips: I still think there is some kind of regulating interaction between Cymbalta and carbidopa-L-dopa. And I still can't explain or predict the sunlight /length of day effects.

Advice & Tips: I am on 2x60mg and tried to cut back to 1x in mid February. That was too soon. Also, I am waking up in the daylight hours, and am not working at UTC anymore. I am trying not to use modafinil for wakefulness.

Advice & Tips: I have gone up in dosage from 60mg/day to 120mg/day, since Sept 1. Since I am ahead of my usual "sometime in Sept -Oct"schedule, Psychiatrist called it prophylactic. Said to call his office if I need to change med schedule. Aass for cost, I have met my yearly out-of-pocket, so i pay nothing.

Dosage: 60 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: I have noticed that when taking 2x60mg, the L-dopa 25/100 can be taken 4-5 hours. When taking 60mg Cymbalta, the L-dopa is about 3-4hrs. IS it regulating the release? I like the 2x60mg. I wonder if it is causing sleepiness as I usually cut dosage in the SPringtime. It will take weeks to figure this out. I don't want to wreck my summer. Also, Cymbalta trashes the sex drive.
Cost: $25-49 monthly

Advice & Tips: I changed doctors and had hip replacement surgery on my worst hip and then the other hip. NO MORE PAIN. It seems that due to lifelong taking cortisone pills and slathering cortisone cremes for severe allergies/eczema/asthma my body's cartilage was affected. So even tho I have some pain in most of my joints-I know why.

Advice & Tips: I have been told that 120mg per day is the maximum dose of Cymbalta that you can be prescribed. When I started thinking I was having some problems last fall, I asked my psychiatrist if I could again add Buproprion back into my meds. I now take that with the Cymbalta and I think that I am feeling less anxious and less bothered by the world around me. I shouldn't let things get to me the way they do, but I cannot help it when thoughts get into my head and I can't get them out of it. No matter what medication I take, I will always have an ADHD brain so everything will never be completely right with me. I sure wish that it could be though.
Side effects: decreased sex drive (libido)

  • Adherence

Not at all hard to take
Dosage: 60 mg Twice daily
Advice & Tips: I marked that there are negative and positive side effects with the Cymbalta. I will discuss the positive first. When I first started the Cymbalta the FDA had not yet approved it for helping fibro pain so I was just taking it to help control my mind that was bouncing all over the place, I could never settle my mind down and the Cymbalta helped with that along with sleeping medications. The negative side effect is still my lack of sex drive. It has gotten so bad that I don't even think about sex anymore. I feel so bad for my partner as he has gone nearly 2 years at one point without being intimate with me. Now my female parts are getting smaller and even trying to have sex causes me extreme pain on top of everything else. My doctor tried to get me to use some hormonal vaginal cream but it started me bleeding and I am 10 years past menopause so that was no good. I know that we should enjoy sex until the day we die and here I am not even 60 yet... I was horribly depressed by the death of my Mother-in-Law from May until September and I had to start taking Abilify again and now I am feeling a lot better. Cymbalta without Abilify doesn't seem to work very well for me.
Cost: < $25 monthly

Dosage: 90 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: When I saw my phychiatrist on May 23, 2013 he told me to divide my dose and take 30mg in the morning and 60mg with my night-time medicine. This is supposed to help my fatigue. I still have not felt any different. I am exhausted all the time and I do not think it is from the pain meds that I take. I was tired before I started taking those meds. I have lost my spark!
Cost: < $25 monthly
Side effects: decreased sex drive (libido)

Oct 1, 2010 (Started Oct 01, 2010)

    Moderate (for depressed mood)
  • Side effects
Moderate (for Overall) (decreased sex drive (libido))
  • Adherence
    Usually
  • Burden
    A little hard to take
Dosage: 150 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: I think that Cymbalta has totally erased my sex drive. I do not experience drowsiness with Cymbalta. Drug companies have programs to help pay for the Cymbalta.
Cost: < $25 monthly
Side effects: decreased sex drive (libido)

Nov 29, 2009 (Started Oct 01, 2010)

  • Effectiveness
    Major (for depressed mood)
  • Side effects
    None (for Overall)
  • Adherence
    Always
  • Burden
Not at all hard to take
Advice & Tips: I take quite a high dose of the Cymbalta and I have to help it out with Abilify so I am not sure exactly how good the Cymbalta really is. It has been approved by the FDA to help with FM pain so it was a good choice that my doctor had made years before the FDA made the announcement. I still feel like I am on the edge of my seat alot of the time and I also take Visteril when needed.
Cost: < $25 monthly
