Dosage: 1800 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: I've been on this for a few yrs now. It has helped a bit more than previous meds, but without the combo of pain meds, natural supplements and going gluten-free, it is only a mild improvement.  I can definitely tell when I'm an hour or 2 late for taking it because the pain creeps in significantly. This makes me worry that it's more of a drug-dependence (withdrawl) for my body, than my typical pain, but bc I get all over nerve pain, it's hard to differentiate. I don't have this problem with my pain meds and have also been on them for years. Also, my memory and cognitive functioning has been decreasing and it's very difficult to tell if that's med related or something else is going on. As far as, energy, it continues to deplete, but that could be Thyroid related or something else. I still prefer these over the other meds I've tried for allodynia, nerve pain and Fibromyalgia.

  • Burden

Dosage: 1800 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: Make sure that you eat a solid meal before taking and don't plan time drive. The nausea and dizziness is enough to make you uncoordinated. For me luckily, the side effects, other than the nausea, have decreased a little.

Jun 30, 2016 (Started Sep 11, 2011)

  • Effectiveness
    None (for fibromyalgia)
  • Side effects
    Mild (blurry vision)
  • Adherence
    Always
  • Burden
Not at all hard to take
Dosage: 600 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: I think my initial positive reaction coincided with a natural ebb of my symptoms. My pain and fatigue kicked up again even through I never missed a dose of the meds. Eventually I discussed dropping it from my regimen because I just didn't feel it was doing anything for me. I stopped about a year ago and the pain and fatigue did not spike. They tend to ebb and flow the same as before.
Cost: $25-49 monthly

Advice & Tips: this medication seems to have been even more effective at treating my fatigue than my FM nerve pain though it seems to have done a fairly good job with that too.

Sep 3, 2014 (Started Jun 30, 1988)

  • Effectiveness
    Major (for fibromyalgia)
  • Side effects
    None
  • Adherence
    Always
  • Burden
Not at all hard to take
Dosage: 2400 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: Take with food or milk. It can upset your stomach. When I first started taking gabapentin it actually stopped all of the `phantom' pain in my arms and legs. Could hardly believe it! For the longest time I is on 1600 mg a day and now up to 2400 mg a day since they are taking me off the morphine.

Jul 1, 2014 (Started Oct 11, 2013)

  • Effectiveness
    None (for fibromyalgia)

    Moderate (blurry vision)
  • Adherence

  • Burden
Not at all hard to take
Dosage: As needed
Advice & Tips: I did not feel well taking this.

Jan 15, 2014 (Started Oct 11, 2013)

  • Effectiveness
    Slight (for fibromyalgia)
  • Side effects
    Mild (blurry vision)
  • Adherence
    Never taken as prescribed
  • Burden
    Very hard to take
Dosage: As needed
Advice & Tips: The doctor wanted me to take 1 nightly for a week, then increase to 2 and so on until at a high dose. Side effects can be weight gain but for me, at this low dose, I found I would have some dizziness the next morning and blurry vision so no desire to increase. It does help some to ward off pain so I take it when my muscles are making noise like the next day will be a bad fibro day. Sometimes it prevents a bad day, sometimes it doesn't but I am not taking it as prescribed.
