Advice & Tips:
I originally started using the stationary bike as an adjunct to my running. I could work out hard without getting the pounding of running. As my walking and running declined due to Parkinson's, I increased my use of the stationary bike (and elliptical). Because I used the bike so much, I never got to the point of only being able to do 40 or 50 revolutions per minute (rpm) typical of Parkinson's patients. When I read about forced cycling (https://www.patientslikeme.com/forum/pd/topics/143831?post_id=2309943#post-2309943) I was able to go up to 80 rpm, and higher, fairly easily.
I usually do a three or four 10-minute sessions weekly, at slightly over 100 rpm. I also might do one 20 or 30 minute session (also 100 rpm) once per week. If, at the end of my workout, my legs are really stiff, I find that doing two to four 30-second sessions, at resistance one, as fast as I can go (about 120 rpm), with a couple of minutes rest between sessions, makes my legs feel a lot better. I might do this last thing three days a week, at the very end of my workout.
