  • Effectiveness
    Slight (for Parkinson's disease)
  • Effectiveness

Mild (sleepiness, excessive daytime sleepiness (somnolence))
  • Adherence
    Always
  • Burden
Not at all hard to take
Dosage: 60 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: I still think there is some kind of regulating interaction between Cymbalta and carbidopa-L-dopa. And I still can't explain or predict the sunlight /length of day effects.
Cost: < $25 monthly
Side effects: excessive daytime sleepiness (somnolence)

  • Adherence
    Always
  • Burden
Not at all hard to take
Dosage: 120 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: The Psych Dr recommended adding 30mg Cymbalta later in the day when the 60 mg dose is used up. Not sure if and when I wil dose up to 120 mg.
Cost: < $25 monthly
Side effects: excessive daytime sleepiness (somnolence)

Dosage: 120 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: I am on 2x60mg and tried to cut back to 1x in mid February. That was too soon. Also, I am waking up in the daylight hours, and am not working at UTC anymore. I am trying not to use modafinil for wakefulness.
Cost: < $25 monthly
Side effects: excessive daytime sleepiness (somnolence)

Sep 23, 2016 (Started Apr 15, 2014)

Dosage: 120 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: I have gone up in dosage from 60mg/day to 120mg/day, since Sept 1. Since I am ahead of my usual "sometime in Sept -Oct"schedule, Psychiatrist called it prophylactic. Said to call his office if I need to change med schedule. Aass for cost, I have met my yearly out-of-pocket, so i pay nothing.

Moderate (sleepiness, excessive daytime sleepiness (somnolence))
  • Adherence
    Always
  • Burden
Not at all hard to take
Dosage: 60 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: I have noticed that when taking 2x60mg, the L-dopa 25/100 can be taken 4-5 hours. When taking 60mg Cymbalta, the L-dopa is about 3-4hrs. IS it regulating the release? I like the 2x60mg. I wonder if it is causing sleepiness as I usually cut dosage in the SPringtime. It will take weeks to figure this out. I don't want to wreck my summer. Also, Cymbalta trashes the sex drive.
Cost: $25-49 monthly
Side effects: excessive daytime sleepiness (somnolence)

  • Side effects
    Mild (weight gain)
  • Adherence

Dosage: 60 mg Twice daily
Advice & Tips: If you are hesitant to take any antidepressant because of weight gain or sexual desire issues, try it first.  If it does cause that, you can always be switched to another antidepressant.  There are many, many of these different formulae available to you and your doctor and it might take a while to find the one that is right for you.  Also, internal med MDs and GPs often don't give high enough dosages to be clinically significant (studies show), so if your depression and pain aren't improving, consider a one-time or a short course of visits to a psychiatrist, because they are experts in prescriptions for mental health issues.
