Advice & Tips:
I switched from Adderall XR to Methylphenidate d/t fact that Adderall was making me jumpy to a fault. I find that the Ritalin doesn't make me jumpy; I have more clarity & focused thinking. I had to add the 10 mg. at noon b/c my morning dosage of 20 mg. was fizzling out by 3 p.m. It should really be taken with food d/t possible stomach aggravations.

EffectivenessMajor (for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
-
Side effectsMild (decreased appetite)
-
AdherenceAlways
-
BurdenNot at all hard to take
Dosage:
18 mg/24 hr
Daily
Advice & Tips:
Start with the lowest dose available. Stay hydrated. Watch the caffeine intake, especially at first. This wiped out my appetite during the first few days. After that, I would get ravenously hungry as soon as the medication wears off (~ 8 PM for me).
Watch this if you are trying to control your weight.
I can definitely feel the 'bumps' in medication from the time release. They are very predictable at 3 1/2 hour intervals for me. Keep a diary and you can time the 'bumps' to be beneficial for big meetings, tests or whatever it is that you need special concentration for.

Advice & Tips:
I try to drink more water than normal in order to prevent headaches. The poor sleep has always been a problem on any stimulant ADD medication. Concerta has the most mild symptoms. I also keep track and schedule my meals to manage the appetite problems.
The one thing I like about Concerta is that is helps me focus with out making me feel jittery.
