    Major (for breakthrough pain)
  • Side effects

  • Adherence

  • Burden

Dosage: 1 tablet(s) Monthly
Advice & Tips: I had to learn about controlling breakthrough pain as the doc didn't advise me. It was my best friend who helped me put the pain med to the best use. Wow. It changed my life until I got my hip replaced and after surgery. For daily life I definitely did not consider driving my car even if I felt quite "normal." It's a powerful drug and I didn't want to take chances and I was very tired all the time from the meds, from fighting pain, etc.

  • Effectiveness
    Major (for breakthrough pain)
  • Side effects
    Moderate (head pain)
  • Adherence
    Usually
  • Burden
    Somewhat hard to take
Dosage: 2 tablet(s) Monthly
Advice & Tips: I am not taking this medication under the prescription of my doctor. I have the tablets leftover from another procedure where I didn't use it at all. I only use this medication when really needed. I used to maybe take one about once a month for breakout pain. When my pain levels increased significantly over the summer but I did not reduce my activity or take any other actions such as icing I starting resorting to Percoset more like twice a month for breakout pain. If I try and take it more than once a week I get terrible headaches so it's not worth it. I had to learn how to strike a better balance. I just hope my one bottle, carefully used, will last me until I get my hip replaced and this whole mess is over. Also, another side effect from taking Percoset is sleepiness so I am careful not to take it before I have to drive so that takes planning which pain management in general requires.

Advice & Tips: Have been on Percocet for a while now and has been working well for my back pain. Very few headaches from it compared to when I was on vicodine. Has been working very well for me. Was forced to change doctors when mine left Mayo and new Dr has put me back on vicodine. This is why I am no longer taking it.

Advice & Tips: My 5 day Solumedrol treatment at the end of May, failed to improve the physical fatigue of my limbs. It was still an effort to move. I asked the Dr., thinking that my problem was mostly sensory, if something that blocks sensation (pain) would help. It has helped quite a bit. Though I want to stop after one week & see if I am ok withouut it. Not one I care to add to the daily regimen.

Jul 8, 2010 (Started Aug 01, 2009)

  • Effectiveness
    Moderate (for fibromyalgia)
  • Side effects
    Mild
  • Adherence
    Usually
  • Burden
Not at all hard to take
Dosage: 3 x 325 mg-5 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: I increase or decrease this dosage according to pain levels at the time. I watch the timing and never use more than prescribed. I will take 1/2 pill when I need to drive anywhere or if Mom needs more care. I take 1 whole most of the time, but they tend to make me drowsy. I will take 1 1/2 when pain is really bad. I also try to alternate with tens unit, otc pain patches and ointments, and sometimes Aleve in addition (w/Dr. approval)
