  • Perceived effectiveness for Fibromyalgia: Moderate
  • Perceived effectiveness for Pain: Moderate
  • Side Effects: Mild
  • Adherence: Always
  • Burden: Not at all
Dosage: As needed
Advice & Tips: Taking a two week break on doctor's advice to see if this is what's causing my headaches. I can definitely feel the lack of pain relief with it gone.
Cost: < $25 monthly
Side effects: Nausea

Aug 22, 2011 (Started Sep 07, 2010)

  • Perceived effectiveness for Pain: Slight
  • Perceived effectiveness for Fibromyalgia: Slight
  • Side Effects: None
  • Adherence: Sometimes
  • Burden: Not at all
Dosage: As needed
Advice & Tips: Not very impressed. It works, but kind of like taking a Tylenol back before I had Fibro. Doesn't work well alone, but knocks the sharp edges off the pain when combined with a vicodin.
Cost: < $25 monthly
Side effects: Nausea

  • Perceived effectiveness for Fibromyalgia: Moderate
  • Perceived effectiveness for Pain: Moderate
  • Side Effects: Moderate
  • Adherence: Always
  • Burden: Not at all

Advice & Tips: Helps drop my pain levels from 7-8 down to a 4-6. Doesn't always work when my pain is at its worst, but it helps quite a bit.
Cost: < $25 monthly
Side effects: Nausea

  • Perceived effectiveness for Ankylosing Spondylitis: Moderate
  • Perceived effectiveness for Pain: Moderate
  • Side Effects: Severe
  • Adherence: Always
  • Burden: Not at all
Dosage: As needed
Advice & Tips: Excellent painkiller, well worth taking for severe pain. But be aware that if you take this over a long time period at a high dose, you cannot simply stop Tramadol - the withdrawal effects are nasty. But don't worry, you just have to taper-off your dose gradually over a numbers of weeks, and you will be okay.
Cost: $25-49 monthly

Jan 6, 2013 (Started Aug 11, 2012)

  • Perceived effectiveness for Ankylosing Spondylitis: Slight
  • Perceived effectiveness for Pain: Slight
  • Side Effects: Moderate
  • Adherence: Always
  • Burden: Not at all
Dosage: As needed
Advice & Tips: Good pain relief but coming off tramadol after extended period was more difficult than I imagined - withdrawal effects from going cold turkey included insomnia, restlessness. If you gradually decrease the dose though its not a major problem.

  • Perceived effectiveness for Pain: Major
  • Side Effects: Moderate
  • Adherence: Usually
  • Burden: Not at all
Dosage: As needed
Advice & Tips: Positive benefit included being able to function seemingly well on Tramadol. I could drive to school, sit attentively through classes, and felt a burst of energy after the pain subsided. I am now relying only on Vicodin for pain, but I am not sure how long that will last.

Apr 19, 2012 (Started Dec 01, 2009)

  • Perceived effectiveness for Pain: Moderate
  • Side Effects: Mild
  • Adherence: Usually
  • Burden: Not at all
Dosage: As needed
Advice & Tips: I have found that this painkiller is much better than Vicodin. I am able to study, go to class, drive, and continue my daily activities while taking Tramadol without feeling "loopy" or necessarily "high." If it were not for Tramadol, I would never have been able to get through a dual Master's degree. With that said, the downfalls of this drug is severe constipation and inability to urinate (I would have the urge, but then when I try to relieve myself, nothing comes). These symptoms are not too tough to deal with though - and they probably kept me from overusing or ever abusing Tramadol.
