Advice & Tips: The study is now over...and the drug has been renamed Ampyra. During the week between the end of the study and when I received my first "real" prescription, I had no drug...within 3 days, I was having real trouble walking, and/or lifting my feel to get in car, etc. This may or may not have had to do with the Ampyra...at that time my BIL, who had just been diagnosed with ALS was visiting and I was pretty upset, but trying not to show it. After I re-started the drug, within 2-3 days my walking was MUCH better, although, that was in early Aug. 2010 and I am now definitely a wall-walker, and even must use my cane in the house a lot. Getting up and down the stairs is becoming a real chore.

  • Effectiveness
    Slight (for Other)
  • Side effects
    None (for Overall)
  • Adherence
    Always
  • Burden
    A little hard to take
Dosage: 20 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: Don't really notice a difference...but when I take timed walking tests, my speed is always the same or a little faster...unless I'm having a "bad" day. I haven't really noticed much difference, but dont' want to quit unless I can't afford it. I was in trials and have been getting drug free, but might have to pay $1000 a month starting soon, as it was just approved by FDA...If so, will definitely quit!
