I'm a wife to my wonderful husband of 27+ years, a mom to two awesome grown-up kids, a daughter (child #6) to my wonderful parents (who are currently enjoying their winters in Texas), a sister to 7 siblings, (an Aunt and a Great-Aunt - but I lost count a long time ago) and a transplant patient.
OK, my first edit :-) It has come to my attention that the fact that 20 years later my creatinine is still 1.0 may be of interest to some of you! LOL (something that I try not to but may have taken for granted.)
I was about 13 when it was discovered I had a hypoplastic kidney. I also had chronic UTI's and a ureter reflux. After the birth of my second child, who was 2 months premature and weighed only 2 lbs 7 oz, my kidney function declined. I was able to go just another 4 years until I needed the transplant. I was fortunate enough to know ahead of time and was never on dialysis.
So I have 7 brothers and sisters; 2 turned out to be identical matches! So my brother gave me one of his kidneys and well here I am, 20+ years later. By the way, my sister who was an identical match...I am really good to her you know, just in case.
I have only had 2 scares, both early on (within the first 5 years), that turned out to be the flu and major dehydration
That's pretty much my story, although I may change my mind and update it as we go
I am really glad to be here, on this earth and on this forum!
