Originally from England. Moved to the States 7/4/1979 I was 19, running away from a guy, came over here for vacation and never went back. I have 2 children 20 and 22. Second marriage with the man I LOVE.... I now live in Deltona, Florida having moved up here in 2004 from South florida, Boca raton. I had broken up with my boyfriend of 10 years and needed to get away. After four years, he found me and we are now married (3 years). Thank God for him, he takes care of me in so many ways.
In 1990, I sneezed one day and lost hearing in my right ear. None of the doctors could find anything wrong although they agreed i was deaf in that ear. Had tubes in my ear for so many years, finally said no more as they weren't really doing anything. Started having toothache and numbness in left side of face and head. Was told it was Bell's Palsy and given steroids. Had many episodes over the years and just asked the doctor for steroids, not thinking anything else of it. I had been complaining of fatigue for many years, with one doctor saying I had chronic fatigue syndrome, when I knew I didn't. Then thought it was the thyoid. Started losing memory, noticed it when doing crossword puzzle... never admitted to anybody my problems of memory as I thought I was getting senile. I had a workers' compensation case regarding carpal tunnel and after my deposition I was accused of FRAUD because I couldn;t remember certain things. OUCH.... I am the MOST HONEST person and as I was a legal secretary in the field of workers' compensation I knew not to lie (I don't like because I can't remember what I said at the best of times). Anyway, after being accused of fraud, I went to my psychiatrist in tears... he ordered an MRI and BOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMM three spots in my brain. I reviewed the symptoms of MS and I HAD ALL OF THEM (Well 9/10 anyway). Managed to get in at Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville. The doctor reviewed my records and films and in his report agreed I had 9/10 symptoms but that I didn't have MS.... the MRI spots were not normal. I found a local neurologist for a 2nd opinion.. and he said the same exact thing as the Mayo Clinic and sent me to an Infectious Disease physician. That doctor did a lumbar puncture for any infectious diseases and for MS.... I was clear of any infectious diseases but told to go back to the neurologist. He just said OK so you have MS, you need to be on medicine. I went back to Mayo to see another doctor this time..... now that I had the positive LP, she wrote that I'd had MS for about 20 years...so here I am.... all my prior symptoms were MS but not one doctor found it.
Sorry to go on and on about my problems, but in case anyone is reading this and starts seeing a pattern, maybe you can get diagnosed sooner than I did. Would love to hear from anyone just to chat, vent or whatever...
