I am 64 years old and was diagnosed with PD on 8/4/2008. Last year was a significant year for me. I had deep brain stimulation surgery in January. The process was crazy, to say the least. But the results are amazing. Next I had knee replacement surgery and then had my cataracts removed. I tried to get everything taken care of last year so that this year I could concentrate on moving forward. With the DBS, I was able to cut down significantly on my meds. Especially the carbidopa/levodopa. After the knee surgery I took my first pain free step in over 3 years. And with my cataracts removed, I can again drive at night. Also, I am contemplating buying stock in reading glasses.
While the DBS is nor a cure, I would highly recommend it if you are eligible.
