  • Perceived effectiveness for Parkinson's Disease: Moderate
  • Side Effects: Mild
  • Adherence: Usually
  • Burden: Somewhat
Dosage: As needed
Advice & Tips: Takes 1 hour to start working. Loses effectiveness abruptly in 3-4 hours, sometimes between walking strides. Looking for a countdown timer watch to remind me when it's time to take another couple of pills.
Cost: $50-99 monthly

  • Perceived effectiveness for Parkinson's Disease: Moderate
  • Side Effects: Mild
  • Adherence: Usually
  • Burden: Not at all
Dosage: 3 x 25 mg-100 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: For me, 2 Levodopa/carbidopa 25/100 pills take around an hour to provide improvement. In the meantime, it has a strong sedative effect. When it kicks in, I can walk normally, with normal arm swing. It's wonderful. I haven't timed the "on" period, but I plan to do this. The medication does not wear off gradually, but suddenly: one normal stride followed by a return to stiff, PD shuffle as I walk down a street. I'm warned that the medication is about to go because my neck muscles get a crawly feeling.
Cost: < $25 monthly

  • Perceived effectiveness for Parkinson's Disease: Slight
  • Side Effects: Moderate
  • Adherence: Sometimes
  • Burden: Not at all
Dosage: 3 x 25 mg-100 mg Daily
Advice & Tips: I resist taking my generic carbidopa/levodopa because about 45 minutes later a wave of extreme fatigue strikes which usually results in my going to sleep for an hour. I'd rather deal with the stiffness in walking. I'm thinking of shelling out the big bucks for Sinemet to see if it has the same effect.
