I’ve turned 67. I've retired from my professional life and recently become a grandfather. I am fairly active (kayaking, camping, bike riding, flying stunt kites), but my swimming has suffered over the last year at increased difficulty with stamina. I've built two kayaks and begun to try some other woodworking projects. I'm thinking of building a canoe in the next year.
When I am taking my medication regularly, most people would have almost no idea that I am affected by Parkinson's. I have had several surgeries for a benign parotid tumor, so that my face droops slightly on one side. Though rare, people are more likely to notice and at times comment about my face than notice or comment about the PD. I have been leading a support group, called Dialog, for the last 4 years. The group meets once a month at the same time (but separately) as a caregiver support group. There are about 20-30 regular attendees from the greater Lansing area.
