What is xenotropic murine leukemia virus-related virus?

XMRV refers to a retrovirus called xenotropic murine leukemia virus-related virus first identified in 2006. Reports in the scientific literature offer evidence both for and against an association of XMRV with prostate cancer and more recently, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Research is ongoing.
