What is prothrombin deficiency?

Prothrombin deficiency is a blood clotting (coagulation) problem that occurs when there is a lack of prothrombin, a substance needed for blood to clot. It may be due to a genetic mutation of the F2 gene (G20210A) but more commonly it is caused by a lack of or deficiency in Vitamin K.
