What is discoid lupus erythematosus?

A chronic form of cutaneous lupus erythematosus that is characterized by the presence of discoid skin plaques showing varying degrees of swelling , redness, scaliness, and skin atrophy. The condition typically involves the face and scalp, but it can be more widespread.
