What is locked in syndrome?
Locked in syndrome occurs when a person is cognitively present but unable to communicate or move due to paralysis of voluntary muscles in the body. Often, a person is able to communicate with eye movements, unless total locked in syndrome is present where a person is unable to move the eyes.
