What is preterm prelabor rupture of membrane?

Preterm prelabor rupture of membrane, also referred to as PPROM, is a condition that can occur before week 37 of pregnancy. This occurs when the amniotic sac breaks before entering labor, resulting in preterm labor and preterm birth. Complications may occur for the baby and the mother.
