What is herpes zoster ophthalmicus?

Herpes zoster ophthalmicus is a reactivation of a varicella-zoster virus infection (shingles—Herpes Zoster) involving the eye. It is characterized by eye pain, a Zoster rash on the forehead, and eyelid swelling and inflammation.
