Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy is a term for a group of diseases that cause muscle weakness and wasting in the arms and legs. Type 2K is specific to families with mutations in the POMT1 gene (chromosome 9) encoding O-mannosyltransferase 1, an enzyme involved in protein glycosylation.
